The Red Sox dropped Kyle Kendrick to Triple-A Pawtucket after another disappointing opening Wednesday.
To fill Kendrick’s spot on the roster, Boston moved up from Pawtucket to left-handed reliever Robbie Ross Jr.
With a free day next Monday, the Patirrojos will not need a fifth starter until May 20 for their series against the A’s.
Kendrick had the opportunity to settle in the rotation after the injury to the left knee that ended knuckleman Steven Wright’s season. But Kendrick is 0-2 with 12.96 ERA. The right-hander did not pass the fifth inning in any of his performances.
