The Red Sox placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 10-day disabled list because of a sprained left wrist.
To fill the position on the active roster, Boston activated the disabled list to third baseman Venezuelan Pablo Sandoval.
Pedroia, 33, hitting .292 with a .369 base percentage, nine doubles, two home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 RBIs this season.
Sandoval, 30, was placed on the disabled list on April 25 with a sprain in his right knee. He went 25-4 in seven rehab games at Triple-A Pawtucket, with three doubles and two walks. In 17 games of the 2017 campaign with the Red Sox, he hits .213 with three homers, one double, 10 RBIs and seven runs.
