Seth Smith and Manny Machado homered in the first inning against Rick Porcello in support of an excellent start for Alec Asher and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Friday.
Jonathan Schoop hit two hits and scored a run for the Orioles, who have won four of five after a seven-game losing streak.

After connecting four homers to open the series on Thursday, Baltimore appealed to the long distance shots to go ahead against Porcello (3-7), the winner of the Cy Young of the American League in 2016.
Smith disappeared in the right field a 3-2 pitching pitch, for his third homer opening a game and the Machado broke a straight to the second level for the 2-0.
Asher (2-3) retired 15 of the first 17 batters he faced and ended up allowing two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings.
It was his second start after displacing Ubaldo Jiménez in the Baltimore rotation.
Brad Brach, the third reliever in Baltimore, pulled three quick outs for his 11th save in 14 attempts.
For the Red Sox, the Venezuelans Pablo Sandoval of 3-1, one annotated and one towed and Sandy Leon of 2-1. Hanley Ramirez of 3-0.
