The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to call up Mexican right-hander Hector Velazquez from Triple-A Pawtucket to make his major league debut Thursday against the A’s in Oakland.
The Patirrojos acquired Velázquez’s contract in an agreement with the Mexican Baseball League on February 18. In five starts for Pawtucket this season, the Obregon native is 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA.
Velázquez, 28, could make one or two starts for the big team, depending on when left-hander David Price returns to action. Price has not pitched for the Red Sox this season after injuring his left elbow on Feb. 28.
