The Red Sox have called from Triple-A Pawtucket to the infielder of Cuban descent Deven Marrero. To make room for Marrero on the Major League roster, the Patirrojos sent right-hander Brandon Workman to Triple-A.
Marrero, 26, was with the big team from 6-11 April, but saw no action on that stretch. In 19 minor league games this season, he has gone from 71-12 with four runs scored, three doubles and four RBIs.
Since making his debut in the Big Tent for Boston in 2015, Marrero hits .200 in 38 games.
Workman, 28, pitched three scoreless innings in the Red Sox’s 8-3 loss to the Orioles on Thursday. It was his first major league appearance since 2014. The right has not allowed any run in eight innings and four appearances for Pawtucket this season.
