Instead of putting Eduardo Rodriguez in for an inning or two as a major league reliever this weekend, the Red Sox have decided that the Venezuelan left-hander will make one more opening for Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday.
If there were no setbacks, Rodriguez would return to the Boston rotation on July 17 or 18 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rodriguez, 24, has been on the disabled list since June 2 because of a partial dislocation of his right knee. Its opening on Sunday will be the third that it does as part of its rehabilitation.
At the time of injury when he fell to the ground while warming his arm in the bullpen of the Camden Yards of Baltimore, Rodriguez was 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA.
