David Price will have another rehab start on the minors on Wednesday before returning to the Boston Red Sox to finally launch his first game this season in the majors.
Manager John Farrell said he spoke to Price on Saturday morning and agreed that the left-hander needed another start in the minors as part of his recovery from an elbow injury.
Price pitched Friday night in Buffalo, NY, and then returned to Boston and trained at Fenway Park on Saturday.
Price will have a light bullpen session on Sunday.
Farrell expects the ace to make between 85 and 90 pitches in his next opening after adding just 65 on Friday in a game that allowed three runs in the second inning.
Price, 31, had a 17-9 and a 3.99 ERA in 2016, the first season of a seven-year, $ 217 million contract.
