Left-hander Red Sox star David Price pitched three innings in a simulated game at Fenway Park on Thursday and finished the session with a 95-mile-per-hour lineup.

Price was on the mound when the Boston Novena announced that knuckleheader Steven Wright will undergo left knee surgery that will end his season.

Price is not yet ready to take Wright’s place in the Rooks’ rotation, but he could come back soon. The 31-year-old Serpentine is scheduled to work the equivalent of four episodes in a simulated game on Tuesday in Milwaukee.

The club has not set a date for Price’s return, but if his evolution is compared to the evolution of a pitcher during practice, he may be joining the Boston rotation in late May or early June.
